The Presence of God

This week I have been reflecting on the absolute mystery of what experiencing the presence of God will be like. The Bible describes His presence in so many incredible ways that it is impossible to truly wrap our minds around it, which is probably the point. He is indeed incomprehensible. But we will experience this one day, brothers and sisters. We will experience the absolute jaw-dropping, joy-bringing, face-falling, bone-shaking, mountain-rattling, presence of God, and it will be unlike anything we have ever felt, heard, seen, tasted, or smelt. Moses interacted with the presence of God and his face literally shone like a lighthouse for all to see. The people of Israel could not touch the very mountain that God was revealing Himself upon without immediate consequences of death. The prophets cannot stand in His presence. Heavenly beings which have been with Him since the beginning are constantly bowing down before Him, calling Him “Holy, Holy, Holy!” What an awesome God.

And yet, He loves us. He cares for our sorrows. He provides our nutrients. He wipes our tears. He lays His hand upon our shoulder. He is unlike any other in terrifying power and tender compassion. All we can do is praise and adore Him. Praise God.
